Mahfud MD: The Government Strongly Condemns The Perpetrators Of Violence Against Ustad

JAKARTA - The government through the Coordinating Minister for Political and Legal Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD condemned the attacks on religious leaders that occurred in various regions. The police were also asked to thoroughly investigate these cases.

"The government expresses its deep regret for the incident and condemns the perpetrators," Mahfud said in a video statement, Sunday, September 26.

Some of the cases involved attacks, including stabbings in Batam, shootings in Tangerang. Then, there was also the burning of the pulpit of the Grand Mosque in Makassar.

Even the government, said Mahfud, has ordered the National Police to investigate thoroughly. In fact, bringing the case to trial.

"I have ordered and want to reiterate now to the security forces to investigate the incident," said Mahfud.

Moreover, regarding the alleged mental disorder experienced by the perpetrators of the pulpit burning, Mahfud said, he still had to go to trial. So, the judge decides the truth about the allegation.

"If there is any doubt as to whether the person concerned is mentally ill or not, it's up to the judge to decide. Just take it to court so that it will be revealed if the perpetrator is insane or mentally ill, let the court decide," said Mahfud MD.
