JAKARTA - The Traffic Unit of the Madiun City Police Resort (Polres), East Java, held vaccinations as well as providing social assistance to scavengers and homeless people in the area as an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Madiun City Police Traffic Unit Head AKP Dwi Jatmiko in Madiun, Thursday said the vaccination and social service activities were held to commemorate the 66th Anniversary of the Traffic Police in Madiun City. The provision of social assistance in the form of food packages is carried out in collaboration with the community.

"In principle, this is a series of commemorations of the 66th Anniversary of Polantas. Previously, we had carried out the appointment of foster children for COVID-19 victims and vaccinated them. Today, we are again carrying out vaccinations targeting the homeless and scavengers as well as social services," said AKP Dwi Jatmiko at on the sidelines of vaccine activities at the Winongo Madiun Final Disposal Site (TPA), quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, September 26.

He explained that vaccination is deliberately targeting the homeless and scavengers who may have difficulty finding access to vaccinations.

Therefore, his party went down to pick up the ball. In addition, the homeless and scavengers are also vulnerable to disease because they are faced with an unsanitary environment every day. There were about 100 people who got vaccinated in this activity.

"So all citizens have the right to have the same rights. Moreover, they can be considered vulnerable because they work in an unhealthy environment on a daily basis. Therefore, we want to provide vaccination services to them so that group immunity is immediately formed," he said.

The vaccination activities are divided into two points. The first is at the Soenaryo Polres Building in Madiun City and the second is at the Winongo Final Disposal Site (TPA).

He added that the series of commemorations of the Polantas Anniversary this year were indeed not far from controlling and handling COVID-19 activities. Starting from being a foster father for orphaned children who are victims of COVID-19, vaccinations, to basic food assistance for residents affected by the pandemic.

The hope is that the series of warnings can help the government a little in controlling and handling COVID-19 and helping people affected by this pandemic.
