JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, kicked off the Apprenticeship of 5 Super Priority Tourist Destinations around the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for Tourism in Likupang, North Minahasa, North Sulawesi Province. The Kick-Off marks the start of preparing skilled human resources in the tourism sector in 5 super-priority tourist destinations.

The Minister of Manpower Ida said that the Apprenticeship Program is one of the right solutions to overcome employment problems, especially in preparing workers with competencies that are in line with the labor market.

"In the apprenticeship program, participants get work experience in the real world of work, form mental attitudes, work behaviors and competencies that are in accordance with the needs of the labor market," said Minister of Manpower Ida in a written statement, Friday, September 24.

In addition to preparing skilled human resources in 5 super-priority tourist destinations, apprenticeship is also an effort by the government in welcoming the demographic bonus, as well as solving a number of challenges that surround it. These challenges include the digitalization era, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the employment sector, and the low qualification of Indonesian HR skills.

"This apprenticeship program is part of the training, not to get cheap labor. But rather to get competent workers according to the needs of the industry, in this case, the tourism industry," she explained.

Kick Off Apprenticeship 5 Super Priority Tourist Destinations implemented in a hybrid manner. Kick off were held simultaneously at 5 Super Priority Tourist Destinations, namely Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Borobudur (Central Java), Mandalika (NTB), Labuan Bajo (NTT), and Likupang (North Sulawesi) via video connection (virtual). This kick off was also carried out face-to-face by implementing strict health protocols in Likupang, North Minahasa, as the center for the kick off.

Domestic Apprenticeships at 5 Super Priority Tourist Destinations will be attended by 470 apprenticeship program participants with 25 types of positions, namely Food And Beverage Service Product; Food And Beverage Service Services; Front Office; Housekeeping; Engineering; Accounting; Food And Beverage Service Kitchen; Food And Beverage Service Restaurant; Waitress; Back Office; Diving Crew; Admin Finance; Banquet Attendants; General Staff Officer; Information Technology; Chef; Laundry; Laundry Attendants; Public Areas; Reception; Room Attendants; Room Boys; Services; Technician; and Waitress.

To facilitate this program, the Ministry of Manpower also collaborates with 46 tourism companies located in around 5 super-priority tourist destinations.

"Hopefully with this apprenticeship program we can improve the competence of tourism sector workers to support 5 super-priority tourist destinations," she said.
