Discontinued Professional Allowance, Teacher Complains To Commission X DPR RI

JAKARTA - The Indonesian SPK Teacher Forum complained to Commission X of the Indonesian Parliament regarding the termination of the professional allowance regulated in the Ministry of Education and Culture Secretariat Regulation Number 6 of 2020. This complaint was submitted because the regulation was deemed contrary to Law Number 14 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers.

In a public hearing chaired by Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR RI Abdul Fikri Faqih, the teacher asked the Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim to cancel the secretary general's regulation.

After revoking, these teachers want the professional allowance to be given back to them.

Responding to this, Fikri emphasized that teachers and lecturers have professional certificates and are appointed by education providers to be entitled to an allowance.

"In PP No. 41/2009 concerning professional allowances for teachers and lecturers as well as honorary allowances for professors, paragraph 1 states that teachers and lecturers who already have educational certificates and meet the requirements of the statutory provisions are given professional allowances every month," said Fikri in a meeting held held at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, July 15.

He said the professional allowance was given to teachers and lecturers who were not state civil servants (ASN).

Before closing the meeting, Commission X DPR RI said that it would help teachers who lost their right to allowances. "Commission X considers it necessary to carry out a supervisory function on this policy. Commission X wants to hear directly from the SMA education unit regarding the distribution of teacher professional allowances," he concluded.
