Anticipating Floods, DKI Provincial Government Prepares Pumps At 180 Locations

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has alerted hundreds of water pump units placed in 180 locations to anticipate flooding in the capital, especially during the peak of the rainy season.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency Yusmada Faisal said the pumps prepared consisted of 480 permanent (stationary) pumps and 327 portable (mobile) pumps.

"Our pump locations are located at 180 points including those in reservoirs, on the banks of the river there are 480 units of 'stationary' pumps," said Yusmada, quoted by Antara, Thursday, September 23.

Yusmada explained that a number of efforts were made to mitigate flooding in the capital, including ensuring that all water pumps were functioning properly.

In addition, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also building infiltration wells with a target of 40 thousand points by the end of the year. Currently, the construction of infiltration wells has only been realized at 22 thousand points.

There is also flood mitigation carried out, along with the peak of the rainy season in Jakarta which is expected to occur in early 2022, based on the predictions of the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

BPBD also carries out a series of preventive efforts to deal with extreme weather, namely by socializing, distributing disaster guidebooks to the community, coordinating with related institutions.
