Jokowi's Loud Voice: We Must Be Kings In Our Seas!

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded that the utilization of Indonesia's marine wealth must be done wisely and wisely. This includes fishing.

"Utilization of maritime resources is necessary but must be wise and wise. Fishing in the sea is necessary but the pattern of catching must be measured," said Jokowi when giving a speech at the commemoration of National Maritime Day which was broadcast on the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs' YouTube, Thursday, September 23.

Utilization wisely needs to be done to protect the interests of present and future generations. Moreover, the sea is a source of livelihood.

Jokowi also asked all parties to change their views on the sea in Indonesia. "The sea is not a separator, the sea is a link between islands," he stressed.

"The sea is not a backyard that we turn our backs on but the sea is the front yard where we face. The sea is not a place to throw away what we don't need, but the sea is a place for us to live," added the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.

Furthermore, Jokowi mentioned the importance of scientific support and technology in the process of exploiting marine resources. He requested that Indonesia not only develop the growth of the domestic shipping industry but also transportation services and logistics services.

"We must be kings of our seas," he said.

Thus, the use of the sea must be carried out according to the principle of resource sustainability and use science and technology wisely and wisely.

"Once again, a wise and wise attitude to use science and technology wisely and wisely will make us a strong and prosperous country based on our maritime strength," said Jokowi.

"Happy National Maritime Day. Let's make Indonesia the world's maritime axis. A strong and just Indonesia," he concluded.
