JAKARTA - A Bell helicopter belonging to the Indonesian Army Aviation (Penerbad) evacuated the body of a health worker, Gabriela Meilan from Kiwirok, Bintang Mountains Regency, who died as a result of being persecuted by an armed criminal group (KKB).

"Hopefully the evacuation of Gabriela's body will run smoothly without any major disturbances," hoped Dandrem 172/PWY Brigadier General Izak Pangemanan to Antara, Tuesday in Jayapura, September 21.

Not just to evacuate Gabriela's body. This helicopter will also be used to evacuate other civilians from Kiwirok, which is estimated to still be 19 people.

Gabriela Meilan's body was evacuated from the ravine on Friday (17/9) but due to an engine problem, the Indonesian Air Force's Caracal helicopter could not return and evacuate, added Brigadier General Izak Pangemanan.

A gun battle between members of the TNI-Polri and the armed criminal group (KKB) occurred again in Kiwirok, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua, Monday, September 20 yesterday. Luckily there were no casualties from members of the TNI-Polri.

He said the shootout occurred with the Lamek Taplo group, which since Monday, September 13 had been shooting and attacking civilians who served as health workers in Kiwirok.

As a result of the attack on health workers, one of them named Gabriela Meilan died after falling with three of her colleagues into a ravine and being abused by a group of KKB.

Gabriela's body was only successfully evacuated Friday afternoon, September 17, after receiving equipment loan assistance from the Jayapura SAR and is now being kept at the house of a member of the Kiwirok Koramil, said AKBP Cahyo.
