Smuggling 107 Kilograms Of Shabu In Riau Islands Using Luxury Ships

BATAM - The Riau Islands Regional Police stated that the smuggling of 107,258 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine revealed by the police and Customs used the mode of shipping by luxury boats.

"In my opinion, this can be called a new mode," said Deputy Chief of the Riau Islands Police Brigadier General Darmawan in Batam, quoted by Antara, Monday, September 20.

Narcotics shipments in the previous disclosures often used fishing boats, and were arrested by the police. So now the syndicate is trying to use a luxury boat so that it looks like an angler.

However, the Deputy Chief of the Riau Islands Police said, thanks to the cooperation of all parties, the effort to send large quantities of methamphetamine using ships worth billions of rupiah was successfully sniffed out until arrests were made.

Brigadier General Darmawan stated that the narcotics shipment must have been carried out by a syndicate, because the amount was large, 107,258 kg of crystal methamphetamine worth Rp128 billion.

The delivery of narcotics was carried out by five suspects, namely RA (26), from Jakarta, AJA (23) in Jombang, East Java, EAH (25) from Bitung, North Sulawesi, ROS (26) from Batam, Riau Islands, and H (33) West Java. Another suspect is still on the wanted list, namely JB's initials.

"Their job is to pick them up from Malaysian waters, when they enter Indonesian territory, we make arrests," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Regional Office of the Riau Islands Customs and Excise Akhmad Rofiq stated that the narcotics catch was the largest so far this year.

According to him, the disclosure of the case took a relatively long time. From the beginning of the joint analysis, until the action takes one week.

His party deployed eight patrol boats to uncover the case, and cooperated with the police.

Meanwhile, the Riau Islands Regional Police revealed a case of circulating 107,258 kg of methamphetamine which was secured in the waters around Putri Island, Batam City, Sunday, September 5.

If one gram of methamphetamine is assumed to have been consumed by three to four people, the authorities will save 321,774 to 429,000 human lives.

Officials estimate that the illegal goods are worth Rp128 billion in the field, assuming the price in the market.
