JAKARTA - Commission I of the DPR has agreed to strengthen the authority of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to optimize Indonesia's cybersecurity. This follows the rise of data leaks that have occurred recently.

"BSSN and Commission I agree that it is necessary to strengthen the legal basis and authority of the BSSN," said member of Commission I DPR Muhammad Farhan, after the Hearing Meeting (RDP) of Commission I DPR RI with BSSN regarding the discussion on the adjustment of RKA K/L BSSN for Fiscal Year 2022 in Parliament building, Monday, September 20.

According to him, there needs to be a legal basis in the form of a law so that BSSN can carry out prevention, guidance, and prosecution in the context of cyber security in Indonesia. Farhan said that currently BSSN does not have the authority to take action at all and only has a development role.

"Now the BSSN budget is only 50 percent, only the operational budget. Even though Indonesia's cyber security and defense must be strong," he said.

Regarding the National Cyber Security Security Bill (KKSN), Farhan asked the executive to take action to make this happen. Because, he said, the legislation program was an initiative of the government.

"The government should invite us to intensively discuss. Right now, BSSN only focuses on the Presidential Regulation," explained Farhan.

In addition, according to Farhan, the focus of BSSN's attention should not only be data leakage, but also negotiations with world giant corporate institutions that want to carry out data mining in Indonesia.

"BSSN is in a precarious condition now under the Ministry of Communication and Information, but when will the roadmap be discussed, BSSN can stand independently like OJK," said Farhan.
