Minister Of Health Budi Gunadi Regrets Many People Are Afraid Of Check Up: Later When You Have Cancer, You Are Afraid To Die

JAKARTA - Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin admitted that he would transform the health sector. Budi said the Ministry of Health had made six transformation frameworks for this.

The first is public health promotive and preventive intervention. Second, hospital referral services. Third, the health security system. Fourth, the health payment system. Fifth, health resources. Sixth, the transformation of information technology and biotechnology.

Budi said that this transformation needed to be done to change the pattern of public health for the better. Budi admits that he is surprised why many people do not want to carry out routine checks on their health.

"We want to improve screening and testing and check-ups are very important. Indonesians are afraid of being checked-up. Later when they have cancer, they are afraid to die because they are late for admission to the hospital," Budi said in a virtual discussion broadcast by Katadata Indonesia, Saturday, 18 September.

In fact, said Budi, if people diligently check their health, they will be able to reduce the possibility of catastrophic diseases or those that require high costs for treatment.

"In fact, if you are diligent every year for check-ups, blood checks every 6 months, it will greatly reduce the possibility of severe illness, which makes your life disrupted and your finances can also go bankrupt because you are late in anticipating," said Budi.

Budi said he would focus on transforming to keep more people healthy. According to him, the fewer people who are affected by the disease, the burden of spending on health services will also decrease.

"Why don't we talk about preventing so we don't get sick. Let's eat healthy, let's exercise 30 minutes 5 times a week. If possible, don't eat a lot of sweets and sugar. That will make all health funds cheaper from the financial side and will make our lives are more comfortable and productive," he concluded.
