Protective Ship IV That Sank In Cilacap Routinely Undergoes Maintenance, Last Four Months Ago

CILACAP - The head of the Pasir Putih Nusakambangan Penitentiary, Fajar Nurcahyono, said that the Pengyoman IV ship that capsized and sank in the northern waters of Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap Regency, Central Java, is routinely undergoing maintenance.

"Lastly, about three or four months ago he underwent treatment, but the one who handled Batu Lapas was the coordinator. I represent the Batu Kalapas which is currently in Semarang," he said when giving a press statement at Wijayapura Pier, Cilacap, as reported by Antara, Friday, September 17.

According to him, the Protective Ship IV, which began serving the Nusakambangan Prison special crossings since 2013, is still relatively new so it is still considered roadworthy.

Regarding the two trucks loaded with sand transported by the Pengayoman IV Ship, Fajar said the sand was for the construction of three new prisons in Nusakambangan.

The Pengayoman IV ship sank in the waters north of Nusakambangan Island on its way from Wijayapura Pier, Cilacap, to Sodong Pier, Nusakambangan Island, after capsized due to strong winds on Friday, September 17 morning.

The ship which departed from Wijayapura Pier at 08.50 WIB was carrying seven passengers including crew members, one motorbike, and two trucks loaded with sand.

At around 09.00 WIB, the ship was blown away by the wind and capsized. As a result of the incident, two passengers died and five others survived. According to Antara, the Pengayoman IV Ship is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) assistance program from PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk (before changing its name to PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk since acquired by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, ed.) for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in order to support prison operations on Nusakambangan Island.

The ship which was handed over by the Legal and Corporate Director of PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk Janus O Hutapea to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Bambang Rantam in Cilacap on March 23, 2013 was a 90 GRT Ro-Ro ferry with a length of 27 meters and a width of 27 meters. hull 7 meters.

The ship, which is capable of carrying 80 passengers with four trucks, one mixer truck, and two cars, can travel at a speed of 8 knots and a "draft" of 1.8 meters.
