Four Months Looking For Fish In The Sea, ABK Dies When Hernia Relapses

SUKABUMI - Sukabumi Police Water Police Unit Head, AKP Tri Andri Affandi, said the death of the crew of the KM Harapan Jaya ship who was sailing to fish in the Indian Ocean was due to illness.

"We have evacuated the body of the 69-year-old crew member with the initials S, and from the results of the examination, the victim died of a hernia. His body was evacuated to the Palabuhanratu sea area, Sukabumi Regency, West Java because it was the closest location", said Tri quoting Antara, Thursday, September 16.

According to the information gathered, the victim, a resident of Sukorejo Village, Ulujami District, Pemalang Regency, Central Java, has been fishing for four months. The victim and other crew members sailed from Kamal Muara, Penjaringan Subdistrict, North Jakarta.

While catching fish, the victim's hernia suddenly recurred and his health condition deteriorated. The pain got worse, due to the lack of medicine, so that finally S breathed his last on a motorboat that was sailing to fish in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

According to the police, the victim had been dead since Friday, September 10, and could only be evacuated to land on Wednesday, September 15. Incidentally, the closest point from the ship was the waters of Palabuhanratu, so they were evacuated to Palabuhanratu and immediately taken to the Palabuhanratu Hospital.

According to Tri, the hernia suffered by the crew had been around for a long time and recurred while sailing. In addition, because the crew was confused about managing S's body, plus the ship's location in the middle of the Indian Ocean, it was quite difficult to evacuate to land.

"The victim's body has been handed over to his family to be buried in his hometown, and the cause of death is confirmed to be illness", he said.
