Riding A Vespa, The Mayor Of Surabaya Absorbs Citizens' Aspirations

SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi has his own style when absorbing the aspirations of the residents, one of which is by traveling around the city using his favorite Vespa.

"In this way, I hope that the aspirations of the people who have not been accommodated can be immediately understood, so that the steps and policies that must be taken can also be faster," said Mayor Eri after touring the city in the Krembangan sub-district, Surabaya, East Java, quoted by Antara, Monday, 13 September.

Currently, Mayor Eri Cahyadi travels around Surabaya almost every day using his favorite Vespa motorbike. On Monday, Eri and his wife, who is also the Chair of the Surabaya City PKK Mobilization Team, Rini Indriyani rode a motorcycle to an event in Krembangan District.

Every time he rides around Surabaya, he never gets tired of listening to the complaints and aspirations of the citizens. In fact, if there are residents who need quick steps from the Surabaya City Government, Eri immediately helps them.

According to him, the ranks of the Surabaya City Government were asked to act quickly in helping these residents. For Mayor Eri, this is an effective way to absorb people's aspirations, so that policies can be taken more quickly.

Mayor Eri Cahyadi also admitted that he did not like working behind a desk. Because working behind a desk makes him unable to understand the real needs of the residents.

"So, I'm happy to go downstairs. Then why ride a motorbike? Because it's faster. If I take a car I may only get 2 places, but if I use a motorbike I can get many places, it turns out that riding a motorbike is good. Eling (remember) in high school, " he said.

With a model like this, he hopes that people's aspirations that have not been absorbed can be understood. In fact, he hopes that this kind of approach is also carried out by the ranks of the Surabaya City Government.

Eri Cahyadi gave an example if the mayor can "work" in the kelurahan, the subdistrict head should be able to work at the RW Hall every day. Likewise, the lurah can work at the RT around every day.

"From there, people's aspirations are drawn, what has not been fulfilled, a solution is immediately sought to fulfill it," he said.

Even so, Mayor Eri Cahyadi also did not require the sub-district and village heads to travel around using motorbikes like himself. For him, the camat/lurah can use any vehicle, from a motorcycle or a car.

"It's up to you to use a motorbike or a car, the most important thing is to absorb the aspirations of the people so they can be heard by Surabaya City Government officials, so that steps and policies can also be faster. Let's together make the people of Surabaya happy and prosperous," he said.
