Praise For Firli Bahuri After The Initial DPR Meeting At The KPK Office

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament Herman Hery gave praise to the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri after holding a hearing (RDP) at the KPK's Red and White House. According to Herman, the KPK is currently better than in previous periods.

"Today I came here as Commission III. I see a difference. This time, the KPK is the KPK that really carries out its duties and functions as a professional KPK," said Herman after visiting the KPK Detention Center at the Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta. , Tuesday, July 7.

The PDI-P politician who has been sitting in Commission III of the DPR since 2004 said, in the Firli era, law enforcement was carried out professionally. Then, the current KPK does not show off its prosecution of corruption cases.

"The KPK does not festival the case which is important. Do not call people just to do festivalization. I see the KPK as professional with the Supervisory Board," he said.

However, the KPK, he said, would act decisively against any deviant activities. "If there are irregularities, the KPK leadership will not hesitate to take action," he said.

Firli responded casually to this compliment. He emphasized that the KPK will continue to carry out the maximum eradication of corruption on the basis of prevention.

According to him, during the COVID-19 pandemic like now, prevention must be done massively. This needs to be done so that there is no deviation in the use of the budget for handling COVID-19. One of them is that the KPK supervises the use and distribution of social assistance by the government.

"If there are irregularities, the KPK will act decisively," said Firli.

It is known that this is the first time that Commission III of the DPR has conducted an RDP with the KPK outside the parliament building. Before the meeting, Chairman of Commission III Herman Heri emphasized that there was nothing wrong with the meeting at the corruption eradication headquarters. Because, according to the MD3 Law, meetings are allowed to be held outside the parliament building.

Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) highlighted the meeting. ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana considered that there was no urgency or urgent interest that made the meeting to be held at the KPK's Red and White House.

"There is no urgency to hold an RDP in the KPK building," said Kurnia.

He assessed that the meeting actually made anti-graft institutions more subservient to executive and legislative powers. Apart from that, this closed meeting raised suspicion and indicated that the DPR RI wanted to hide from the public.

Whereas Commission III DPR RI should understand that the KPK must be transparent to the public. "By using the logic flow of the KPK Law, the DPR understands that this anti-graft agency is accountable to the public. So every problem that exists in the KPK, the public has the right to know," said the anti-corruption activist.

Kurnia was of the opinion that instead of holding a closed meeting at the KPK, the DPR should schedule an open hearing to discuss various irregularities in the anti-corruption institution after being chaired by Firli Bahuri.

"For example, the follow-up on the alleged violation of the code of ethics over the luxury helicopter controversy used by Komjen Firli Bahuri some time ago," he concluded.
