In Front Of Deddy Corbuzier, Head Of KPI Says Saipul Jamil Can Appear On TV Special For Sexual Education

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Agung Suprio stated that Saipul Jamil was not prohibited from appearing on television. This is in accordance with the circular issued by KPI to broadcasting stations in Indonesia.

However, according to Agung, the context of Saipul Jamil appeared on television specifically for education. For example appearing as a resource person who preached about the dangers of sexual predators.

"He (Saipul Jamil) can appear for educational purposes. For example, he is present as a (resource) on the dangers of predators, it can also be. This is in a letter sent to a television broadcasting institution," said Agung as quoted by VOI on Deddy Corbuzier's Youtube channel, Thursday, 9 September.

KPI, said Agung, only criticized the glorification of Saipul Jamil shown by the television station. This also made KPI forbid Saipul Jamil to appear in the context of entertainment.

Agung said that the case of Saipul Jamil cannot be equated with the case of an artist who was exposed to drugs. Therefore, various considerations ranging from Human Rights (HAM), ethics to law must be taken into account by KPI in making decisions.

"We are arguing about human rights, ethics and the law. We have a strong debate at the commissioner (KPI). He (Saipul Jamil) has human rights. What about it? While TV is a public space. I can't," said Agung.

As a result, the decision taken by KPI was to condemn the glorification of Saipul Jamil. Agung added that this decision was criticized by human rights activists because after all, television was Saipul Jamil's space to earn a living.

"This is the opposite of ethics, propriety, and we temporarily remove human rights. He can still appear, not not at all, he can appear but in the context of education," said Agung.
