JAKARTA - The National Commission (Komnas) for Child Protection strongly condemns sexual violence against Indonesian children.

Based on data from UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) which has been owned by Komnas PA since 2007, there are around 100,000 Indonesian children and women trafficked for sexual purposes each year.

"It increases every year. 30 percent of Indonesian women are under the age of 18, every year it also increases (victims)," said the Supervisory Board of the National Commission for Child Protection, Rostien Ilyas, Wednesday, September 8.

Rostien explained, around 40-70 thousand Indonesian children become victims of sexual exploitation every year. These data are the same for boys and girls.

"I think this should be serious. Try an institution that has a lot of bureaucracy. For example, KPAI, it's a state institution trying to do proper research. Show us the data so we know and can map for all of this. Oh, it's still red here, it's green here. That's very important, " he said.

Furthermore, Rostien said that KPAI has an obligation to do so because they are paid by the government.

"Because he (KPAI) is paid by the government, paid by people's money, paid by the cries of the people. This is a very terrible crime. The trauma is long," he said.

The Board of Commissioners of the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA), Imacculata added, the problem of child predators will continue to repeat itself. Because, according to Imacculata, the impact grows and gives birth to new, more sadistic predators.

"Because of the vengeance," he said.
