Don't Want Euphoria Over The Decline In Cases, Jokowi: COVID-19 Is Always Watching Us

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo gave a note in the implementation of the PPKM which was extended starting today. He conveyed this during the PPKM evaluation meeting with the ministers, yesterday.

COVID-19 cases have indeed decreased. Over the past four days, daily cases stood at around 7,700 cases, 6,700 cases, 5,400 cases and 4,413 cases.

However, Jokowi stressed to his subordinates, not to let the public misinterpret the information about the decline in this case that they are free to carry out their activities.

"Don't let information like this be misunderstood that this is allowed, this is allowed, this is allowed. This is dangerous," Jokowi said on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube video, quoted on Tuesday, September 7.

Jokowi asked his subordinates to be able to remind the public that COVID-19 cannot be completely eradicated. What the government can do is control so that the transmission of the corona virus does not spike again.

"The thing called COVID is impossible to completely disappear. All we can do is control it. This statement is very important so that there is no excessive euphoria, excessive fun. So that people are always aware that COVID is always peeking, the Delta variant is always peeking at us. off guard, can go up again," said Jokowi.

Jokowi also alluded to the Mu variant which has emerged recently in a number of countries. Government officials, said Jokowi, must be vigilant so that this variant does not enter Indonesia and causes a spike in cases like the Delta variant. This, said Jokowi, could reduce the number of active cases nationwide.

"In the past (active cases) we reached 500 thousand. Today as I remember it was in the 150 thousand. This is if we continue to do our work consistently, I believe God willing, at the end of September we will be below 100 thousand," he concluded.
