Over 10,000 Melbourne Conspiracy Theories Reject COVID-19 Test

JAKARTA - More than 10,000 people in Melbourne, Australia refuse to undergo a COVID-19 screening test. The reason is that most of them believe that the corona virus is a mere conspiracy.

The Minister of Health for the State of Victoria, Jenny Mikakos, said that thousands of residents refused the presence of medical personnel who came to carry out tests and tests for COVID-19. Various reasons were raised by them for refusing the test, including those who claimed to have undergone a COVID-19 swab test.

"This is worrying according to the reports I received. Some people believe that the corona virus is a conspiracy or feel that the corona has no impact on them," said Jenny Mikakos as quoted by the Telegraph, Saturday, July 4.

To date, the state of Victoria with the capital city of Melbourne has recorded 442 active cases of COVID-19, including 6 of whom have received intensive care. The local government has even budgeted an additional 2 million Australian dollars or around Rp. 20 billion for mental health funds for residents who live in hotspots and are prone to COVID-19 transmission.

According to Jenny, there are more than 300,000 residents living in Melbourne who have been affected by the implementation of the lockdown. Some of these areas have even contributed to positive cases of COVID-19 infection, such as Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Mickleham, Roxburgh Park, Kalkallo, Kensington, Flemington, Broadmeadows, Dallas, Jacana and Fawkner.

His party is also investigating, the possibility of a 'super spreader' who is the cause of the increase in cases of new corona virus transmission in the City of Melbourne. The term 'super spreader' itself refers to people without symptoms (OTG) who can transmit the corona virus to many people in a short time and usually have high immunity.

This refers to the double-digit increase in the number of new cases of COVID-19 infection in a row in the last 24 hours. There are 66 people who have contracted the corona virus, of which 17 cases are related to clusters that have been handled by the government and the rest are still being investigated.

"On Tuesday, I was briefed on a genome sequencing report that appeared to suggest that one source of infection had caused the new cases and had crossed the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne," Jenny said.

"It seems that there is even a potential that the cause of this increase in cases is a super spreader," he added.

Even so, the super spreader concept is one of several theories being investigated by Australian health authorities at this time. The Victorian government has also imposed quarantine rules for areas that are hotspots for the spread of the corona virus, following health protocols from the World Health Organization (WHO).
