DPR Asks KPI To Fire Perpetrators Of Sexual Harassment Against MS

JAKARTA - Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) asked the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to firmly respond to allegations of sexual harassment and bullying experienced by one of its employees, a man with the initials MS.

Member of Commission I of the DPR from the PPP faction, Syaifullah Tamliha, reminded KPI to investigate and reveal the truth of MS's confession of bullying and sexual harassment received from fellow employees at the KPI office.

"KPI leaders must move quickly to investigate the truth of information regarding sexual harassment and bullying in their institutions," said Tamliha, in Jakarta, Friday, September 3.

Tamliha appealed to KPI to give strict sanctions by firing the perpetrators, if indeed what MS revealed was proven to be true.

"If proven, take firm action up to dismissal," said Tamliha.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Ahmad Sahroni asked the alleged perpetrators of harassment and bullying of employees of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to be dealt with firmly. According to Sahroni, MS as a victim should be given treatment assistance to recover his depressed mental state.

“Moreover, we know that this bullying has been experienced for years and happened in one of the state institutions. This cannot be allowed. This is why we at Nasdem are keen to fight for the PKS Bill, so that reporting cases like this can be taken more effectively,” said Sahroni, Friday, September 3.

He also appreciated the quick steps taken by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police in investigating cases of harassment and bullying of KPI employees. According to him, bullying in the workplace is an act that cannot be tolerated.

"Full support to the Criminal Investigation Police and their staff who immediately intervened in investigating this case. Bullying in the workplace is an act that cannot be tolerated, given its tremendous effect on the victim,” he continued.
