JAKARTA - The Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is processing a complaint from the Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman regarding the alleged violation of the code of ethics committed by KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri. Firli reportedly used a helicopter belonging to a private company while on a visit to his hometown.

As a reporter, Boyamin admitted that he had been questioned by the KPK Supervisory Board using video conference technology through the Zoom platform.

"Clarification via Zoom with the KPK Dewas regarding the complaint on masks, helicopters and Alphard's car regarding the allegation of ethical violations by KPK chairman Firli," Boyamin told reporters Thursday, July 2.

When asked further about the matter of the investigation by the KPK Dewas, Boyamin was reluctant to go into details. He considered that the clarification process was actually closed, so that what was being asked could not be revealed to the public.

He only explained that everything he knew about Firli's alleged violation of the code of conduct had been conveyed to the KPK Dewas.

After this clarification process, he is waiting for the steps taken by Tumpak Hatorangan, cs as the KPK Supervisory Board.

"Let's wait for the next adult steps and hopefully it will meet our expectations," he said.

The alleged violation of this code of conduct was reported after Firli visited South Sumatra on Saturday, June 20. During the visit, Firli used a helicopter belonging to a private company numbered PK-JTO to travel from Palembang City to Baturaja Regency, South Sumatra on a pilgrimage to the graves of his parents.

Upon learning of the use of the helicopter, Wednesday, June 24, Boyamin sent an electronic letter to the KPK Dewas reporting the alleged violation. He said Firli had violated the KPK leadership's code of ethics for a luxurious lifestyle.

This rule is contained in the Corruption Eradication Commission Supervisory Board Regulation Number 01 of 2020 concerning the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct of the Corruption Eradication Commission. In point 27 of the integrity section, it is stated that all KPK personnel do not show a hedonistic lifestyle as a form of empathy for the community, especially fellow commissioners.

Returning to the matter of investigating the alleged violation of the code of conduct, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Kurnia Ramadhana asked Dewas KPK to be transparent. He asked that the results of the investigation of the alleged violations be made public.

"If a fact is found that the person concerned violates the code of ethics, the Supervisory Board must announce this to the public," said Kurnia.

In addition, Kurnia asked the Supervisory Board to provide a target time for handling the reporting. The reason is that so far the investigation of alleged violations of the code of ethics at the anti-graft agency has been slow and often unclear.

He considered that when the Supervisory Board was not transparent in handling this case, then its role in the KPK must be questioned. "Because it only ignores potential violations committed by the KPK leadership," he said.

Some time ago, Firli, as the party accused of violating the code of ethics, admitted that he did not want to think about this problem and only wanted to work.

He actually said that he had also been reported to the KPK Dewas for meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD.

"So at the meeting (with, red) the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs I was also reported," he said, confirming that he had met Mahfud to discuss work issues, but he did not elaborate.

"We just work. Our time is up due to responding to criticism and complaints," added the former KPK Deputy for Enforcement.

Meanwhile, the KPK Supervisory Board examined Firli last week for the helicopter case. Chairman of the KPK Dewas Tumpak Hatorangan said that he had assigned the team to identify facts related to the Boyamin report.

He also made sure Dewas would do his job well. "We will carry out this supervisory task as well as possible," he said.
