Commission II Of The House Of Representatives Ensures That The Amendment To The Constitution Has Nothing To Do With The Implementation Of The General Election

JAKARTA - The chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR), Ahmad Doli Kurnia, emphasized that the proposed amendment to the 1945 Constitution by the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) has nothing to do with the discourse of postponing the election, let alone the addition of a three-term presidential term.

This is said by Doli in response to the issue of the postponement of the 2024 election to 2027 and the addition of the presidential term from 2 to 3 periods.

"There will be no connection between the amendment and the implementation of the general election in 2024", said Doli, Thursday, September 2.

According to him, the plan to amend the Constitution is to strengthen the MPR of the Republic of Indonesia, which is included in the Basic Principles of State Policy (PPHN) or previously called the GBHN.

"The amendments have not been agreed or not (agreed, ed)", said the Golkar Party politician.

Doli said that until now there has been no discussion of changes to the law in Commission II of the DPR because they are still busy with discussions about the concept of the 2024 election so that there are no more victims like what happened in 2019.

If there is an amendment to the 1945 Constitution with the main discussion on strengthening the MPR RI as the highest state institution, then it is certain that Doli will not affect the 2024 election.

"It has nothing to do with holding elections", he said.

However, if it is redeveloped in the amendment to the 1945 Constitution by including points regarding the extension of the president's term of office to 3 terms, then the parliament's stance is still waiting for an official decision. Because, said Doli, as long as the material for the extension of the president's term of office has not become a political and legal decision, then it is only an issue.

"Including, the issue of the 2024 election being postponed to 2027 which has nothing to do with the amendment to the 1945 Constitution", said Doli.
