SOLO - The central government will take the handling of slum areas in Solo as a model for other regions in Indonesia.

"I see a model for handling urban slums. In Solo, there is already a way to handle urban slums, we will use that as a model for replication elsewhere," said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy on the sidelines of his visit in Solo, quoted by Antara, Thursday, September 2nd.

He said this was in accordance with President Joko Widodo's directive, namely to focus on the extreme poor.

"For urban areas, the tendency is in poverty enclaves. The solution cannot only be social assistance but an environmental approach. For this reason, in areas of extreme poverty, an environmental approach is taken," he said.

Muhadjir said that what must be considered are the provision of livable housing, sanitation, clean water, and integrated handling.

"Solo has a model (handling slum areas)," he said.

Meanwhile, the City Without Slums Program (KOTAKU) belonging to the Surakarta City Government was implemented in RW 23, Mojo Village, Pasar Kliwon District, Solo.

According to him, the Surakarta City Government's policy in dealing with slum areas uses the concept of relocation and the creation of green lines.

"The house will be built properly and is targeted for completion next year. We will use it as a pilot model for handling other slum areas. It can be replicated to other places," he said.
