Police Examine 7 Witnesses In The Case Of Alleged Corruption In Jember's COVID-19 Funeral Budget

JEMBER - Investigators of the Jember Resort Police (Polres) examined seven witnesses in the alleged corruption case of the COVID-19 funeral budget in Jember Regency, East Java.

"There are seven witnesses who were examined to obtain information in the alleged corruption case of misuse of the COVID-19 funeral budget," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jember Police AKP Komang Yogi Arya Wiguna, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 31.

Seven people were questioned at the Jember Police Headquarters, including Plt. Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Jember M. Djamil and Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Penta Satria, as well as funeral volunteers.

"As of tonight, the investigation of the related parties is still ongoing, so investigators are still investigating because it takes time," he said.

The investigation into the alleged corruption case of misuse of the COVID-19 funeral budget was assisted by the East Java Regional Police's Anti-Corruption Crime Sub Directorate as a form of assistance and also carried out a joint investigation so that the results were maximized.

"Later we will provide information when there are further developments and the police are still investigating the case," he said.

Previously, Jember Police investigators summoned Jember BPBD Treasurer Siti Fatimah. A few days later, his party called Plt. Head of BPBD Jember M. Djamil and Head of Logistics and Emergency Penta Satria.

The summons of a number of officials was due to the viral Covid-19 funeral fee of Rp. 70.5 million, which allegedly went to four people, namely Jember Regent Hendy Siswanto, Regional Secretary Mirfano, Plt. Head of BPBD Moh. Djamil, and Head of Logistics and Emergency Penta Satria.
