JAKARTA - Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, is committed to producing quality legislation or laws in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. He ensured that all members of the DPR RI will work optimally even if there are meeting restrictions.

"The DPR RI has a high commitment in completing the National Legislation Program to meet national legal needs," said Puan Maharani when delivering the DPR Performance Report 2020-2021 at the Plenary Meeting of the 76th Anniversary of the DPR RI, Tuesday, August 31.

Puan explained that the Medium-Term National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) for 2020-2024 has agreed on a target of 246 bills with the government. Then there are 33 targeted bills in this year's Priority Prolegnas.

During 2020-2021, the PDIP politician revealed that the DPR has passed 9 bills. Currently, he said, there are 14 bills that are in the stage of level I discussions and 17 bills that are in the drafting stage.

"In the midst of a pandemic situation full of uncertainty, the Indonesian House of Representatives has completed the discussion and ratified the Job Creation Bill, the first Omnibus Law in Indonesia. It is hoped that this will become the main pillar of structural reforms in our country," he explained.

Puan added that there were 79 cases of judicial review of the 1945 Constitution at the Constitutional Court during 2020-2021. Of this number, only 5 cases were approved by the Constitutional Court.

"This shows that the implementation of the legislative function of the DPR RI is in line with the state constitution," he said.
