China Condemns US Action In Deporting Three Students At Houston Airport

JAKARTA - China strongly condemns the United States' action in deporting the three students from the Bamboo Curtain country when they just landed at Houston International Airport.

"Discriminatory treatment targeted at certain countries goes against the US vision of openness and freedom that has been exalted by the US in welcoming students from China", said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin in Beijing, August 30.

Therefore, the MFA urges the US to stop such actions because it can disrupt the program of exchange between people and the culture of the two countries.

During the regular press briefing, Wang revealed that the three Chinese students who had valid visas from the US authorities were questioned upon arrival at Houston Airport on August 15.

The three students are suspected of getting funding from Chinese authorities and having ties to the military.

Military training background photos were found on their cell phones.

On that pretext, the US authorities immediately deported the three Chinese students.

"The US repatriated these Chinese students under trumped-up, even ridiculous pretexts. This is a gross violation of the rights of Chinese students who want to study in the US", Wang said.

His party will support the students in fighting for the rights guaranteed by law.

US embassies and consulates in China have reopened visa services for foreign students since May 4 after the Joe Biden administration announced it would make it easier for Chinese citizens and students to travel to the US in the fall, which is only a few weeks away.
