PPATK And BP2MI Talk About Protection Of Indonesian Migrant Workers From The Danger Of Human Trafficking

JAKARTA - Illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are one of the second largest foreign exchange earners after the oil and gas sector. Therefore, protection against PMI is important.

This was conveyed in a meeting between the Head of the Center for Transaction Reports and Analysis (PPATK) Dian Ediana Rae and the Head of the Indonesian Migrant Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani at the PPATK Building.

According to Benny, the crime of Human Trafficking is a crime that we must face together, this crime is a crime that can be categorized as an Extraordinary Crime. The results of research conducted by BP2MI that human trafficking syndicates are carried out by several people with fairly large assets.

"From 1 PMI who departed illegally, a profit of up to Rp. 40 million could be obtained, while the capital spent was only Rp. 20 million," said Benny, Tuesday, August 24.

PPATK pays great attention to cases related to crimes against humanity such as human trafficking, people smuggling, and modern slavery.

"Therefore, cooperation with BP2MI is expected to further enhance Indonesia's efforts to protect Indonesian migrant workers," said Dian.

Furthermore, Dian explained that although in accordance with the results of the 2021 National Risk Assessment (NRA) the potential for money laundering (ML) related to Migrant Smuggling is still relatively low, this does not mean that it has escaped the attention of PPATK and Law Enforcement Officials. because it is related to humanity and involves international networks.

"The profile of Indonesian Migrant Workers or PMI is also vulnerable to being exploited in the ML mode through fund transfers and cross-border cash carrying," said Dian.

From this meeting, the two parties, PPATK and BP2MI, agreed to synergize in increasing cooperation in terms of exchanging information, training and sharing knowledge regarding modes related to unlawful labor placement activities.

The meeting was also attended by the Expert Council of the Syndicate Brush Task Force, Yunus Husein, Representatives of BP2MI Leaders, and Representatives of Echelon I and II PPATK.
