JAKARTA - West Jakarta Metro Police officers chased 2 people out of 4 pickpockets gangs who acted in a shopping center in the West Jakarta area. The two people are FS and VR, who have DPO (wanted people) status.

The pursuit of two DPOs was based on the capture of CS (32) and RJ (30), a group of pickpockets who were caught first. Based on the confession of CS and RJ, they have been stealing inside the mall since 1 year ago. The two suspects, CS and RJ, were arrested in the Johar Baru area, Central Jakarta and in Bogor, West Java.

West Jakarta Metro Police Head of Criminal Investigation, Kompol Joko Dwi Harsono, said the gang were specialists in pickpocketing mobile phones in the elevator.

"It consists of four people who believe CS, RJ. Meanwhile, two other actors namely FS and VR are now DPO status. They carry out actions in conspiracies with various roles. Where there is a division of tasks, there are those who divert and some take action," said Kasat West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Commissioner Joko Dwi Harsono told reporters, Wednesday, August 25.

"We developed it by taking CCTV footage and examining existing witnesses. We managed to arrest two people," he said.

"At that time, there was a division of roles between the actors. There was a divert attention by asking the road, asking 'what floor is this' and another one who took a cellphone," said Joko.

"They are specialists (theft) of shopping centers in elevators," he said.

Kanit further said that the victim was a social media activist or commonly called a celebgram named Vanessa Valencia.

"Our suspect is wearing Article 362 of the Criminal Code. Maybe after the investigation there is another article we will snare because the investigation is still in the process," he said.

Previously, it was reported that a group of pickpockets was at the mall in the Grogol Petamburan area, West Jakarta. The gang is suspected of having stolen a cellphone belonging to the victim.
