Extreme Weather Forcing Vietnamese Farmers To Work At Night

JAKARTA - The phenomenon of rising air temperatures makes Vietnamese citizens unable to do their maximum activities during the day. The weather was so hot. This has an impact on decreasing population productivity. Outsmarting this condition, local farmers have to work at night.

A group of farmers on the outskirts of Hanoi switched their working hours from morning and afternoon to night. As reported by Reuters, the change in working time by the farmer group that is part of the Tam Thanh community has been carried out since the beginning of the week.

With limited lamps as the main lighting, the farmers admit that they do not have many choices. They are forced to do this to increase productivity which of course has implications for their survival.

Furthermore, one of the farmers, Le Van Ha, explained that it was impossible for them to force themselves to work during the day because of the heat that burned the skin. This condition happened for a long time. Every year, the heat gets worse in Vietnam.

The 40-year-old farmer revealed that the extreme heat recently happened was caused by illegal logging. "The temperature goes up one or two degrees (centigrade) every year," said Le Van Ha.

On the way, working at night seems quite satisfying to farmers. They also seem to be able to work longer hours because the air is at a stable temperature.

An official at Vietnam's National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center also said about the temperature rise. He said that almost all corners of Vietnam currently have the same problem, namely suffering from high temperatures.

However, this year's hot temperature has not been as severe as last year's highest temperature which touched 43.4 degrees Celsius in Ha Tinh Province. Since then, the farmers began to be complacent in order to maintain work productivity.
