Malaysian Police Arrest Syndicate Smuggling Drones Using Drones

JAKARTA - The technology of unmanned aircraft or drones is currently developing rapidly. This tool can be utilized in various sectors including the illegal drug trade. Malaysian police managed to arrest two dealers who smuggled illegal goods using drones.

The dealers were arrested on the border of Johor Bahru and Singapore. Previously, the authorities had arrested Singaporean drug dealer Mohammad Azli Ahmad Said, known as "Boy Satan".

Today, the number of suspects is increasing, Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay announced that a 23 year old Malaysian woman was also arrested with Mohamad Azli in Mount Austin Park. Ayob Khan explained that Azli and a male colleague were wanted by the Singapore Police for drug and criminal cases.

"The two men were drunk when we questioned them, so give us some time. Maybe more operations will be deployed to solve this case. Although the amount of drugs is not so much, this is a new modus operandi," Ayob was quoted as saying by CNA.

Malaysian police confiscated 30 ecstasy pills, 13.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 2.4 grams of heroin totaling US $ 605. "We will sue them here first, because the offense was committed in Malaysia. They will serve our sentences first before we send them back (to Singapore)," said Ayob.

When asked how the Malaysian police prevented this from happening again, they said they had the tools of conquest. Apart from that, drone flights should also have permission from public aviation authorities, said Ayob, such as the Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM).

"Especially if you fly a drone in a security room such as the headquarters of this police contingent or the entry / exit point for immigration," said Ayob.
