PAPUA - The Sorong Police, West Papua, have arrested the Head of the Sorong City Education Office with the initials PK and the treasurer with the initials AP. Both were named as suspects in alleged corruption in the 2019 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) corruption.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sorong City Police, AKP Nirwan Fakaubun, confirmed the status of the PK and AP suspects. Both were arrested on August 16 based on a police report in November 2020.

The report states that there are allegations of corruption in the budget for changes to the Education and Culture Office of the DIPA for the 2019 academic year, which is budgeted for additional income payments based on professional auctions or education support services or additional incentive funds for civil servants, teachers and honorariums.

"The total budgeted funds for payment of additional incentives for civil servants, teachers and honorariums is Rp. 14 billion," said Nirwan when confirmed in Sorong, Antara, Thursday, August 19.

Of the total of around Rp. 14 billion, in the payment process there was a fictitious payment and according to the results of the BPKP audit, Rp. 461,000,000 was lost to the state.

The fictitious payment in question is proof of receipt of incentive payments on behalf of a teacher who does not exist or has died.

"We have confiscated evidence of cash amounting to Rp. 147,000,000 from some of the money lost by the state," said Kasat.

In the same case, investigators have examined seven witnesses including BPKP and have named the two perpetrators as suspects.
