JAKARTA - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission II Guspardi Gaus asked the General Elections Commission (KPU) to make two scenario options related to the general election (election) and regional head election (pilkada), which will be held in 2024.

The two scenarios include the matter of holding elections in a COVID-19 pandemic situation and elections in normal situations. According to him, this is needed to anticipate various risks, if the pandemic in 2024 has not been declared over. "The two scenarios will have an impact on increasing the election budget. If the pandemic does not end, there will be additional budgets, such as for the implementation of health protocols," said Guspardi to reporters, Thursday, August 19. In this case, Article 167 paragraph 1 of Law 7/2017 and Article 201 paragraph 8 of Law 10/2016 which in principle stipulates that elections and national simultaneous elections will be held in 2024.

Furthermore, this member of the Legislative Council of the Republic of Indonesia said that the Indonesian KPU was currently drafting regulations related to the stages of conducting elections and local elections. Previously, the KPU had discussed the proposed presidential and legislative elections to be held on February 21, 2024 and the regional elections on November 27, 2024.

Including the matter of its implementation is arranged in such a way. So, said Guspardi, it does not coincide with the big day and also pays attention to natural factors such as the rainy season or others.

In addition, he added, the proposed implementation date by the KPU has not yet been finalized. It will soon be discussed in Commission II of the DPR as a working partner.

"So the implementation schedule has not been decided. After the recess period is over, Commission II will discuss and discuss it with the election administration and the Ministry of Home Affairs. It will only become a decision after being discussed and approved by the DPR and the government," said Guspardi.
