JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen invites residents to be able to become foster parents for children whose parents have died due to COVID-19.
"Currently, there are 5,400 children in Central Java who have lost their parents due to COVID-19," he said in Semarang, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, August 16.
According to Gus Yasin, who is familiarly known as the Deputy Governor of Central Java, the responsibility for parenting is not only left to the government, so he taps into the concerns of Central Java residents to help.
"Not everything is left to the government. If so, where is the spirit of heroism and the spirit of love for the country? If that can't be done," he said.
Regarding government participation, Gus Yasin said that the Central Java Provincial Government and Central Java Regional Police had moved, namely by providing compensation, the ASN Program to become foster parents, APBD assistance, and Baznas.
He said the assistance that could be provided was mainly about education.
"The pandemic is not over yet, we need to be vigilant. Let's save our nation's children. We need smart people. If they can't go to school, what will happen to our nation?" he said.
He claimed to have adopted four foster children whose parents died due to COVID-19.
"The four children now live in Rembang, originally they were Demak because their mother died and their parents couldn't afford it. There are two elementary school students, junior high school students and one in college. They need money, they have helped as much as they can, Central Java residents I believe rich," he said.
