Basarnas Searches For 7 Victims Of Capsized Ship In Tanjung Puting Waters, Central Kalimantan

PALANGKA RAYA - The Palangka Raya Basarnas team along with a number of parties are looking for seven victims of a capsized boat in the waters of Tanjung Puting, West Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan.

"In that incident, 13 people were recorded as victims. Five people were found safe, one died and seven others are being searched for," said Head of the Palangka Raya Search and Rescue Office, M Hariyadi, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, August 18.

He said those who were continuing to search for the victims of KM Putri Ayu were KSOP Kumai, Kuala Pembuang Naval Post, Polairud and the local community.

"If the victim is found, it will be evacuated and then the victim will be taken to the nearest hospital. For developments later, we will continue to inform you again," he said.

Hariyadi said at 08.10 WIB the motor boat Putri Ayu 3, carrying 13 people, departed from Muara Baru, Jakarta, to the Java Sea to look for fish.

Furthermore, at 04.00 WIB, when the ship was on its way to KM Putri Ayu 3, it capsized because it was hit by a big wave about 60 kilometers from Tanjung Puting National Park, West Kotawaringin Regency.

"The boat capsized at approximate coordinates 03° 59' 00.00" S / 111° 53' 00.00" E. Five survivors and one person died have been evacuated to Jakarta using a fishing boat. Seven other people are still being searched, " said Hariyadi.

He added that in this incident his party together with a number of related agencies have been searching for the victims since Tuesday at 17:20 WIB.

In the search for the seven victims of the overturning of the Putri Ayu 3 motor boat, his party continues to coordinate with relevant agencies such as the harbormaster, the Fisheries Port Office and other parties.

"Hopefully the victims will be found soon and if the community or other parties find the victims or find instructions, they should immediately report to the officers so that they can be followed up immediately," said Hariyadi.
