High Potential Of Waves Reaches 4 Meters In Waters In Aceh Region, BMKG Asks Residents To Be Alert

ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) asked the ferry port and the general public to be aware of the potential for wave heights or sea waves reaching 4 meters in the waters of the Aceh region.

Head of the Data and Information Section of the BMKG Meteorological Station Class I Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar, Zakaria Ahmad said the warning was issued for the estimated sea wave height for the next three days.

"Be aware of the potential for high waves in the northern waters of Sabang, the western waters of Aceh, the waters of Meulaboh-Sinabang Islands and the West Indian Ocean of Aceh which can reach 4 meters or more," said Zakaria in Banda Aceh, Antara, Tuesday, August 17.

Furthermore, BMKG also asked the public to be aware of the potential for sea waves with heights ranging from 1.25 to 2.5 meters in the northern Malacca Strait, the Banda Aceh-Sabang crossing waters and Lhokseumawe waters.

Meanwhile, for boat crossings to Simeulue Regency from West Aceh Regency or Sinabang-Meulaboh Islands, the potential for high sea waves is up to 4 meters.

For the classification of sea wave heights from 1.25 to 2.5 meters, it is still in the medium category, while heights from 2.5 to 4 meters are in the high category.

Therefore, Zakaria appealed to residents to increase their vigilance when going to sea in these weather conditions.

"We urge fishermen to be aware of wave heights when going to sea, to be more careful. Then we also appeal to the activities of crossing Banda Aceh - Sabang and West Aceh - Simeulue," he said.

In addition, the BMKG also reminded residents of the hydrometeorological potential in Aceh, especially the Central Aceh Regency and parts of Bener Meriah which have the potential for heavy rain and lightning.

Meanwhile, Sabang, Lhokseumawe, Banda Aceh and some areas of Pidie have sunny cloudy weather conditions.

"Meanwhile, the weather forecast conditions in a number of other regencies/cities in Aceh are thick cloudy to moderate rain," said Zakaria.
