Task Force Highlights 5 Provinces That Are Often Included In The Top 5 Increase In COVID-19 Cases

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said national cases had shown a downward trend over the past four weeks. Unfortunately, Wiku highlights that there are several provinces that are often included in the top 5 provinces with the highest increase in cases.

"Over the past six weeks, there have been 5 provinces that have more than once been one of the highest contributors to the increase in cases at the national level," Wiku said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, August 17.

The 5 provinces are Central Java, Bali, North Sumatra, NTT and South Kalimantan. In the last week, the increase in cases in Central Java was 5,143 cases, Bali 1,904 cases, West Papua 667 cases, Central Kalimantan 553 cases, and West Sulawesi 295 cases.

Wiku asked the local government to pay close attention, not only to areas with a high number of cases, but also to observe the increase in cases as early as possible so that the spike can be anticipated.

"More efforts from local governments are also needed in formulating policies that are in line with the conditions and challenges in their regions. In addition, the active role of the community who always wears masks, maintains distance, washes hands, and minimizes mobility," said Wiku.

In addition, Wiku also explained that weekly national positive cases have decreased for four consecutive weeks or decreased by 41.6 percent from the second peak.

"This is a good development even though the number of cases is still high compared to before the spike in cases in May," said Wiku.

The cure rate has also increased rapidly over the last 2 months. Healing reached 2 million and 3 million cures in just 2 months.

"The recovery rate which is also experiencing acceleration shows the ability of the Indonesian people to adapt to taking control measures that are more responsive and precise. Although, the challenges of the pandemic are not getting easier. In the future, this recovery must continue to be increased so that deaths can be suppressed as much as possible," he concluded. .
