JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir has instructed SOEs to help fishermen to advance to class.

"We will think about having a Pertashop in the Nambangan area. Of course, apart from serving fuel for vehicles, we will discuss how to use diesel fuel for fishermen," explained Erick Thohir in a written statement, Antara, Monday, August 19.

In addition to fuel, fishermen will also be assisted in terms of capital. This, continued Erick Thohir, will be discussed with Himbara bank and PNM so that they can be involved further.

"As for distribution, give me time because talking about the fishing industry will be related to other ministries. God willing, we will definitely help so that our fishermen can advance to class," said Erick.

In order to build food security, especially in the Indonesian fishing industry, he continued, SOEs must provide maximum support so that fishermen will advance to class.

The problem of expensive fuel, capital, and support for the distribution of catches must be found a way out so that the lives and welfare of fishermen are improved.

The fishermen of Nambangan are currently complaining about the high cost of diesel fuel because they don't have access to buy it at gas stations, so they have to go retail.

They bought it at a high price of IDR 8,000/liter with dirty diesel quality. The official price of diesel at gas stations is IDR 5,150/liter. In addition, they need wide open access to capital and catch distribution channels.

"Regarding marketing, I also ask that fishermen who are members of the Indonesian Traditional Fishermen Association or KNTI, especially millennial and technology literate fishermen, take advantage of digital marketing," said Erick Thohir.

The Minister of SOEs also added that there are several successful examples of how informal sector businesses, such as warteg, have higher sales through digital access, rather than direct sales. State-owned companies engaged in the capital and banking sectors are ready to help with digital marketing training.
