Unusual Jakarta Birthday Celebration

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Province turns 493 years old today, Monday, June 22, 2020. However, this year's birthday (HUT) cannot be celebrated as usual. There are no activities or festivals to gather people to celebrate the anniversary of the capital due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

This morning, the Jakarta Anniversary ceremonial event was still being held with the COVID-19 prevention protocol by the DKI Provincial Government and the DKI DPRD. DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that the theme of Jakarta's anniversary this year is "Tough Jakarta".

"This year we chose the theme 'Jakarta Resilient' to illustrate, in this city there are residents who have high enthusiasm, have resilience. So that when 2020, this force will be given no small challenges, namely facing the COVID-19 pandemic," said Anies in DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, June 22.

Anies said the reason his party took the theme of the resilience of the Jakarta population in facing the COVID-19 outbreak was seen from the results of evaluating the current corona virus cases.

Where Jakarta has passed the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) period. Currently, the restrictions have been relaxed to become a transitional PSBB which has been running for more than two weeks.

As a result, Anies claimed that for two weeks there had not been a spike in COVID-19 cases in Jakarta. In fact, the reproductive rate (R) of the corona virus has decreased by 0.01, from the beginning of the PSBB transition, the reproduction rate was at 0.99 and now it is 0.98.

"This morning, a report from the team from the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia said that 2 weeks of the transition period, the outbreak in Jakarta was under control," said Anies.

"It was reported that when reviewed, the worry when there was a spike did not occur. Instead, the R number became 0.98. This is something that shows that this is the hard work of all Jakarta people," he continued.

The year in which construction was delayed

There are things that must be sacrificed in handling COVID-19. Since this outbreak hit, many infrastructure development budget plans have been diverted specifically to deal with the corona virus.

Therefore, Anies hopes that there will be no increase in new cases during the transitional PSBB period. That way, restrictions are no longer implemented, so that the wheels of the economy and development can continue.

"We will continue to facilitate, both the growth of micro, medium and large businesses, from the service sector to the construction sector, so that they can immediately resume activities. However, all of this takes into account the conditions of the outbreak," said Anies.
