Pekanbaru Proposes 969 Prisoners To Get Remission For RI's Anniversary

JAKARTA - Class I Pekanbaru State Detention Center (Rutan) has proposed that as many as 969 Correctional Inmates (WBP) or inmates get remission on the 76th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

Head of Pekanbaru Class I Detention Center, M Lukman, said that the 969 inmates who were proposed to receive remission had been handed over to the Director General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Lukman detailed that of the 969 inmates, 938 received general remission I, the remaining 31 people received remission II or were immediately released.

Lukman explained that remission is the right of prisoners in accordance with Law Number 12 of 1995 concerning Corrections. This is also regulated in Article 14 paragraph 1, as well as Presidential Decree No. 174/1999 on Remissions.

He also said that the proposed convicts had complied with the applicable regulatory requirements, including good behavior, had attended a coaching program with good predicate and had served a criminal term of more than six months.

"Related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pekanbaru Class I Rutan has also limited the number of family visits to avoid exposure to the corona virus," Lukman said in an official statement quoted by Antara, Friday, August 13. The officers and inmates of the detention center have also received the COVID-19 vaccination to increase their body strength.

In addition, the detention center officers also promote raids on the prisoners in order to anticipate the entry of prohibited items such as cell phones, sharp weapons or drugs.
