Governor Khofifah Claims PPKM Effectively Reduces COVID-19 Cases In East Java: Don't Let It Be Lazy

SURABAYA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa conveyed that the extension of the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) has proven to be effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19, especially in local areas.

The effectiveness of the PPKM extension, he said, can be seen from the data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, which is assessed from the rate of case growth and the response capacity of handling COVID-19 in East Java.

According to data as of August 9, 2021, the number of regencies/cities in East Java with PPKM Level 4 was initially 30 regions, now there are 18 regions.

The 18 regencies/cities in Level 4 are Tulungagung, Sidoarjo, Madiun Regency, Gresik, Surabaya City, Mojokerto City, Malang City, Madiun City, Kediri City, Blitar City and Batu City.

Furthermore, Trenggalek, Nganjuk, Malang, Lumajang, Bangkalan, Lamongan and Mojokerto Regencies.

Then, the area that is at Level 3 from the previous eight districts/cities, has now become 19 districts/cities.

The details are Pasuruan, Pamekasan, Pacitan, Kediri, Sumenep, Probolinggo, Tuban, Jember, Bojonegoro, Jombang and Ponorogo regencies.

Then, Blitar Regency, Banyuwangi, Situbondo, Ngawi, Bondowoso, Magetan, Probolinggo City, and Pasuruan City.

"In fact, in East Java there is an area whose status is PPKM Level 2, namely Sampang Regency," said Khofifah.

Khofifah asked the community to show that East Java was able to overcome all circumstances and try to maintain current achievements.

"Various efforts must continue to be increased so that the spread of COVID-19 can be further suppressed. Do not let it slack off and go back down to the level," he said.

Meanwhile, this PPKM level also has a significant impact on decreasing the occupancy rate of beds in hospitals.

Based on data from the East Java Health Service, when compared to the beginning of PPKM on July 3 to August 9, 2021, the occupancy of beds for isolation hospitals in East Java fell from 81 percent to 59 percent.

Then, for emergency hospital occupancy from 69 percent to 49 percent or down 20 percent, and bed occupancy in isolation homes decreased to 38 percent from the previous 50 percent, while for ICU bed occupancy decreased from 78 percent to 73 percent. .

"The significance of this PPKM can also be seen from the reduction in the BOR (bed occupancy) in hospitals, currently, both for isolation, emergency hospitals, and quarantine houses have fallen below the WHO standard of 60 percent," he said.
