Rizeq Shihab Canceled Release Yesterday, Court Ketok Still In Prison Cell

JAKARTA - Rizieq Shihab refused to breathe free air after serving his sentence for two crowd cases, namely Petamburan and Megamendung, yesterday. This is because the DKI Jakarta High Court (PT) has decided that Rizieq will remain in the detention cell.

Whereas in the case of the Petamburan crowd, Rizieq has already served eight months in prison in accordance with the East Jakarta District Court's verdict which was strengthened by the DKI Jakarta High Court at the appeal stage.

The detention period has been effective since December 2020. So, right in August, his sentence has been completed.

Likewise for the Megamendung crowd case. Rizieq has already paid the witness a fine of Rp. 20 million according to the decision of the East Jakarta District Court and strengthened by the DKI Jakarta High Court on appeal.

"The detention period has been completed and the fine has been paid," said Rizieq Shihab's attorney, Sugito Atmo Prawiro to VOI, Monday, August 9.

The chances of Rizieq's freedom seem very small. Sugito said that the court had informally stated that his client would still be detained.

Because, there are still cases of swab results from the UMMI Hospital which are still in the appeal process. So, it is very likely that the court will decide that Rizeq will remain in custody.

"There are still cases regarding the UMMI Hospital that have not been completed. Therefore, it is possible that the court will still detain him until the appeal process is completed and there is a decision," said Sugito.

That assumption was proven. The DKI Jakarta High Court (PT) issued a decision letter number 1831/Pen.Pid/2021/PT DKI. It contained the decision to continue to detain Rizieq Shihab for the next 30 days.

With the verdict, said Sugito, his client must be re-incarcerated in a detention cell until September 2021.

"Yes, that's right, the detention period is added by 30 days. Starting from August 9 to September 7," said Sugito.

The extension of the detention period is because Rizieq Shihab still has a case from the UMMI Hospital swab result. Where, the case is currently being appealed after Rizieq was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

"The court considers it necessary to detain Habib Rizieq because there are still cases of swab results from the UMMI Hospital," he said.

In addition, according to Sugito, based on the decision to extend the detention period received, the DKI High Court has also issued a detention order. Because, it is considered to facilitate inspection.

"The court also considers that for the purposes of examination," said Sugito.
