JAKARTA – The government is working hard to suppress the rate of COVID-19, which has been considered a drain on energy. Officials also work from morning to night to monitor the movement of people.

However, their efforts seemed in vain knowing the actions of dozens of these youths having fun on the road complaining about the speed of their motorbikes.

The illegal racing carried out by a group of young people is considered to be disturbing to road users and local residents. Based on the video that has gone viral on social media, it can be seen that participants and spectators packed one road.

The participants raced their motorbikes at high speed. Some of the vehicles whose speed was blocked by the illegal racing action were forced to pass the busway in order to still be able to pass.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sawah Besar Police who received the report swiftly dispersed the action with tear gas on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta.

According to the officer's statement, the illegal racing activity was stopped because it endangered the people around. Moreover, this illegal racing community violates PPKM Level 4 regulations.

Kapolsek Sawah Besar AKP Maulana Makarom emphasized that the illegal racing did not last long. As soon as they received information about the illegal racing, officers immediately came to the location to disperse it.

"When we got the information to the picket at the Sawah Besar Police, we went straight there. We shot tear gas with a thin level to disperse it," Maulana said when confirmed, Monday, August 9.

However, the police chief did not answer when asked if there were any illegal racing participants who were arrested from last night's action. However, he emphasized that his party had several times secured the participants of illegal racing.

"On average, the perpetrators of illegal racing are minors," he said.

Maulana added that the illegal racing action was often uploaded by the perpetrators to Instagram.

"We are still searching for their Instagram account, we are developing the case," he said.
