Minister Of Education And Culture Nadiem Makarim Uploads A Photo Of A Teacher Who Was A Referee At The Tokyo Olympics: Thank You For Your Service

JAKARTA – Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Makarim expressed his pride and gratitude to the two teachers from Indonesia who were selected to be referees at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. As a form of appreciation, the former Gojek boss shared their photos on his personal Instagram page.

“After students, now it's the turn of teachers who excel in world sports events. Thank you for the dedication of Mr. Wahyana and Mrs. Lia who managed to penetrate the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as referees for badminton," he said via @nadiemmakarim on Saturday, August 7th.

According to Nadiem, achievements in the sporting event are not only monopolized by athletes who won medals. But more than that, participation as a fair interpreter in the field is no less proud for Mother Earth.

"Mother and Father are our inspiration to continue to contribute to the name of Indonesia," he said.

As is known, two people from Indonesia, namely Wahyana and Lia, were chosen to be referees at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in badminton. It was later discovered that both of them work as teachers (teachers).

Wahyana is a sports teacher at SMPN 4 Patuk, Gunung Kidul who holds an official license from the world badminton federation (BWF). Likewise with Lia who also carries out daily activities as an educator. Just so you know, Wahyana was the referee in the final match of the women's singles badminton at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
