JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kebumen Regency has reminded residents who are active on the Suwuk beach to be aware of high waves.

Plt. Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Abdul Muhari said the high waves were triggered by extreme weather that occurred on Sunday, August 1 at 15:40 WIB.

"This natural phenomenon also causes abrasion in the area," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Monday, August 2.

Abdul Muhari said that the affected coastal areas were in Tambakmulyo Village, Puring District, Kebumen Regency, Central Java Province.

"While at the location, BPBD officers also urge residents who are active at sea to use buoys and other safety equipment," he said.

Meanwhile, the results of a rapid field assessment of the Kebumen BPBD noted that as many as 40 stalls were buried by sand with a pile height of 15 cm, village paving roads were eroded by coastal waves and several bamboo stalls were damaged.

Based on the results of the disaster risk assessment at InaRISK, Abdul Muhari said that Kebumen Regency has a coastal area that is prone to abrasion.

"The potential danger of abrasion along the coast is in 7 sub-districts, including Puring Sub-district, which experienced abrasion on Sunday afternoon," he said.
