Three Days Drowning, Toddler In Banyuasin Found Dead Floating

JAKARTA - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of South Sumatra found a toddler, a resident of Telang Village, Banyuasin Regency, who had been missing for three days in a lifeless condition, Sunday, August 1.

"The body of the victim Andik Ferdiansyah (5) was found by officers having floated 20.5 meters from the location of the sinking in the Telang River on Sunday morning at around 09.05 WIB," said Head of the South Sumatra Basarnas Office, Herry Marantika, in Palembang, as reported by Antara, Sunday, August 1st.

The search for victims began with reports from residents who reported that they had lost a toddler in the waters of the Telang River on Friday, July 30.

From the residents' reports, officers consisting of Basarnas, TNI-Polri and residents immediately carried out sweeping using rubber boats (rubber boats) in all areas following the flow of the river.

However, due to the windy weather conditions, the waves were quite large, causing the officers to not be able to find the victim who was suspected of having drowned.

"The weather has made it difficult for the search for victims to continue from the beginning of the search," he said.

According to him, for two days in a row the weather conditions still made the search difficult, so the officers changed their search strategy by focusing on sweeping the surface of the river.

"Under no circumstances should the victim be found out of pity for his family," he said.

Then on the third day the officers found the victim's body floating among the bushes on the riverbank. "We evacuated and handed over the victim's body to the family," he said.

While urging the public if they are in the river area to be more careful and remind each other because even though they are used to it, it is still dangerous.

"Especially pay attention to the children's play area, don't leave the reach of parents," said Herry Marantika.
