Densus 88 Arrest Suspected Terrorist In Makassar

MAKASSAR - The Detachment 88 Anti-terror Team at the National Police Headquarters has again arrested a suspected terrorist with the initials SR (56) in the Tello Village area, Panakukang District, Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"Yes, that's right, it is related to the terrorist (network) in Poso (Central Sulawesi)," said South Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Merdisyam in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Friday, July 30.

The arrest of the suspected terrorist is part of a follow-up investigation by the Densus 88 Anti-terror Team related to a series of terror acts in the Sulawesi and South Sulawesi regions recently.

"If we (South Sulawesi Police) of course only 'backup' (personnel support) the Densus 88 Team," said Merdy.

From the arrest of SR at his home, officers confiscated a number of evidences such as books, arrows, and clothes allegedly related to terrorism cases.

Kapolda said from the results of the examination, SR is Ali Kalora's network, in Poso, Central Sulawesi. SR was arrested on Thursday, July 29 and immediately taken to the Densus 88 Team.

"He has been arrested, where the location of the examination does not have the latest information, because this is the authority of Densus 88," he continued.

Previously, Detachment 88 Anti-terror Police Headquarters brought 58 suspected terrorists to Jakarta after going through a series of intensive examinations at the South Sulawesi Police Headquarters.

The suspects are accused of being involved in the suicide bombing of a married couple with the initials L and YSR in front of the Makassar Cathedral Church on Sunday, March 28, 2021, on the sidelines of the Sunday worship service. Dozens of people were injured during the incident.

After the attack, the Anti-terror Detachment 88 was backed up by the South Sulawesi Regional Police.
