PALEMBANG - South Sumatra Province received an allocation of 3,190 vials of Moderna vaccine from the central government. The vaccine will be used to inject the third dose for health workers (nakes).

Head of the Health Service of the South Sumatra Provincial Government, Lesty Nurainy, said the vaccine would be injected to health workers as a booster or third dose of vaccination.

According to him, health workers as the frontline who deal directly with COVID-19 patients require strong immunity, especially now that there are many new variants of COVID-19 with high transmission.

"Seeing the high risk of infection, the immunity of health workers must be strengthened," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 29.

The vaccine is projected to 53,900 or 98 percent of health workers who have received the second dose. "But we are still waiting for the Ministry of Health's instructions for the injection," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of Health Resources at the South Sumatra Provincial Health Office, Icon Harizon, said that apart from Moderna, Sinovac and AstraZeneca were also receiving vaccines.

Of the number of vaccines, it was recorded that 948,632 people had completed the vaccination scheme for two injections (two doses) or only 14.7 percent of the total target population of 6.4 million people targeted for vaccination.
