Bulgarian Foreigner Who Is Former Convict In The ATM Skimming Case Deported From Mataram

JAKARTA - Class I Immigration Office at the TPI Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, deported a former convict of the automatic teller machine (ATM) skimming case named Georgiev Kaloyan Petrov back to his home country, Bulgaria.

"Because the person in question has finished serving his criminal period at the Mataram Class IIA Prison, the follow-up, we from immigration deported him," said Putu Agus Eka Putra, the Head of the Immigration Office for Class I Mataram TPI in Mataram, as reported by Antara, Friday, July 23.

The task of deporting foreign nationals (WNA), he explained, was carried out under strict guard. The requirement for deporting foreigners in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic is also a series of immigration officers providing escorts.

"We also provide escorts with health protocols. The person concerned has previously undergone a series of health tests," he said.

Officers, he explained, provided escort from Mataram to Jakarta via flight routes. Arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Thursday, July 22, Petrov was immediately flown to Bulgaria via a stopover in Istanbul, Turkey.

In his case, Petrov was arrested in August 2019. He was arrested while withdrawing cash through an ATM located in front of the Ratih Hotel, Mataram City.

But in his withdrawal, Petrov used a fake debit card that already contained stolen data from bank customers.

This is evident from the confiscation of 17 fake ATM cards. The data on the card has been filled with bank customer profiles when he was abroad.

As executor, Petrov made transactions to withdraw money from the same ATM for three consecutive days. The total money withdrawn was Rp42.3 million.

With this act, Petrov in his decision at the Mataram District Court, was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of Rp200 million, subsidiary to two months in prison.
