SURABAYA - A number of residents closed access to the GOR Indoor Emergency Hospital in the Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT) complex in Benowo, Surabaya, East Java. Residents said they were worried about contracting COVID-19.

Camat Pakal Tranggono Wahyu Wibowo when confirmed by reporters confirmed that a number of residents of Jawar, Kelurahan Sumberejo closed access to the GBT Indoor GOR Emergency Hospital which was originally planned to start operating this Friday.

"The reason is that they are afraid of being infected and so on. We will socialize it to residents later tonight," said Tranggono, quoted by Antara, Friday, July 23.

Tranggono explained that the local Rukun Warga (RW) management had been informed about the emergency hospital. However, the RW could not explain it to the residents.

"We gather a lot of people who are having a hard time because of this situation. We will collect the characters later," he said.

Previously, Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi had visited the GBT Indoor Emergency Hospital with a capacity of 225 beds on Thursday, July 22.

Mayor Eri checked the interior of the room, starting from the bed in the GOR, the Emergency Room (ER) to the toilet. In fact, on the sidelines of the check, Eri also ensured the condition of the bed including the availability of hand sanitizers at the foot of the bed, in order to provide comfort for COVID-19 patients.

Eri Cahyadi explained, for the GBT Indoor GOR Emergency Hospital, the plan was to take patients from the Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital (BDH) in the west Surabaya area. Because, he said, currently the number of patients in the BDH Hospital is full.
