Not Anti-Criticism, This Is The Reason For The KPK To Police Greenpeace

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) asserts that it is not anti-critic despite reporting Greenpeace Indonesia to the police. This institution said that the reporting was done not because of the criticism submitted.

"KPK greatly respects the freedom to express ideas and opinions as guaranteed by the law," Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Ali Fikri told reporters quoted on Thursday, July 22.

He said the KPK was always open to ideas, information, criticism, and input from all parties. However, the submission must be done according to the applicable regulations.

"Shooting a laser at the KPK building at that time was carried out at night and we suspect the activity was carried out without permission from the authorities, for us this is not like the usual action and very abnormal," he said.

So, the KPK then decided to report the non-governmental organization to the police.

"We hope this will be a lesson for us to learn how freedom of expression is used responsibly in accordance with cultural values and especially respecting applicable legal provisions," said Ali.

As previously reported, the KPK General Bureau reported the laser shooting at the KPK's Red and White Building with various inscriptions including 'Dare to be honest to fire' by Greenpeace Indonesia. This report was submitted to the South Jakarta Police.

The anti-corruption commission said the report was made because it interfered with the KPK, which is a vital national object.
