Researchers Say Symptoms Of Fever After Vaccination Show Vaccine Works

JAKARTA - Lecturer, and researcher of Medical Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Budiman Bela, said those body reactions that appear such as fever and aches after the COVID-19 vaccine is introduced into the body indicate the vaccine is working.

"The good thing is if there is a reaction to the vaccination", said Budiman, who is the Head of the University of Indonesia's Red and White Vaccine Development Team when contacted by Antara in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 21.

Budiman said, if there is no reaction, then there are two possible conditions, namely the vaccine recipient does not react or the vaccine cannot cause the reaction because for example the temperature during storage and transportation of the vaccine in the distribution process is not maintained so that it is damaged.

The body's reactions to vaccines vary, such as fever, aches, drowsiness, and some even feel weak to the point of fainting. However, the reaction to fainting was very small. Therefore, people are expected not to worry about these symptoms after undergoing vaccination.

In addition, health workers who inject vaccines are trained. People who want to be vaccinated also have to go through screening or health checks at vaccination centers so that people don't have to worry when they want to be vaccinated because doctors or health workers will first check the health condition of prospective vaccine recipients and determine whether they deserve to be vaccinated or not.

After being vaccinated, the recipient of the COVID-19 vaccine will also be under the supervision of medical personnel at the vaccination center for 30 minutes so that if there are certain symptoms, medical assistance can be immediately given.

Recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine can also convey if there are complaints in the future, such as after arriving home by contacting the medical personnel listed on the vaccine card received by everyone who has been vaccinated.

The Indonesian government is aggressively vaccinating the community to create group immunity or herd immunity so that it can reduce morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19.
